Fellowship

Fellowship and Family Life are central to the ministry of our church. From the youngest of our members to our retiree group, there’s something for everyone here at St. Andrew Lutheran. Our community of believers often meets in public or at the homes of our members to share God’s love outside the walls of our church.

Listed below are many of the ways that Fellowship and Family Life are fostered at St. Andrew. If you are interested in learning more about any of these events, please contact the church office by email or call (319) 393-4021.

The St. Andrew Book Club was formed in 2005 as a casual place to meet and discuss books. The club meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7pm. The club typically gathers in the church library, but has also met at Java Creek, Panera Bread, and other coffeehouses just for a change of scenery. The group averages 6-8 people. Members help select future reading material, and two months each year are usually designated as “free read and share”. Church members and non-members are always welcome! For a list of our past books, check out our archive. For more information, click here, or email Muriel Logan.

The Blessed Piecemakers quilting group was founded by Pastor Karen Cluts many years ago. The group currently meets on Monday & Friday from 1-3 pm to make quilts and prayer shawls that are donated to organizations like WayPoint Services and Camp Ewalu. For more information, click here, or email Jan Bahmann.

The STARS (StAndrew Retirees) group gathers on the third Tuesday of every month at a different restaurant in the Cedar Rapids area. Join us for a time of good food and fellowship! For more information, click here, or email Mary Rogers.

The St. Andrew On-The-Town group formed in 2011. Their charter is simple – have a fun and relaxing time taking in various local entertainment options such as Concerts, Theater Performances, and (of course) Fine Dining. For more information, click here, or email Marcia Nilsen.

On Sundays after service during the school year, there is an Adult Forum beginning at 10:45 am. During the summer months, Fellowship Hour happens at the same time – coffee and treats are provided as a fellowship opportunity to just chat and get to know your fellow St. Andrew Lutheran Church member or visitor. Grab a cup of coffee and join us! For more information, click here, or email Mary Rogers.

When they’re not planning for an upcoming trip or other service opportunities around town, the high school youth group, known as SAY (St. Andrew Youth) meets for pizza and fellowship at church or sometimes at various outings like a Haunted House, Kernels games, or concerts. For more information about the Youth Group, click here, or email Stephen Nilsen.

Throughout the year there are also some other fellowship opportunities including:

  • Cabin Fever RelieverFebruary – Games, fellowship, and sledding for the entire family
  • St. Andrew Night at the BallparkSummer – Join our congregation for a night at a ball game with the local baseball team, the Cedar Rapids Kernels
  • St. Andrew Night at the Ice ArenaWinter – Join our congregation for a night at a hockey game ice arena, watching the Cedar Rapids Roughriders
  • Service Opportunities – All year – Though the main goal is for serving others around us, there is always a sense of togetherness when we serve in groups around the community. For more information about service opportunities with St. Andrew Lutheran, click here.
