Fellowship and Family Life are central to the ministry of our church. Listed below are many of the ways that Fellowship and Family Life are fostered at St. Andrew. If you are interested in learning more about any of these events, please contact the church office.
On Sundays between services, there is an Adult Forum beginning at 9:45 AM--come grab a cup of coffee and join us!
Grace Circle (women of the congregation) meets for a program and fellowship on the second Tuesday of the month. The STARS (ST. Andrew RetireeS) group gathers on the third Tuesday of every month at a different restaurant in the Cedar Rapids area for a time of food and fellowship.
On Wednesday nights Confirmation Classes for 7th and 8th graders are held from 6:15 to 8 PM during the school year. Every third week, the confirmands are involved in a fellowship or servant event instead of a learning event. Also on Wednesday nights, the High School Youth meet at 6:30 for "SAY what?" (St. Andrew Youth, that's what!) fellowship. Come for pizza and fellowship! Check out their msn spaces site for more information on current "SAY what?" events.
The Blessed Piecemakers (quilting group) meet on Thursday nights at 6:30 PM and Saturday mornings at 9 AM to make quilts and prayer shawls. Also at 7:30 on Thursday nights, a Bible Study group meets. Every third Thursday of the month, a group from St. Andrew helps out with Green Square Meals at 3:45 PM in downtown Cedar Rapids.
There are also family fellowship events scheduled throughout the year. In early February, the Confirmands help to organize a "Cabin Fever Reliever." This is a time of games and fellowship for the entire family. During the summer months, St. Andrew "fields" a Softball team that competes with other local churches in an Independent Church League (click for 2005 schedule and results). There are also occasional church sponsored golf outings. The Craft Fair is held in late autumn--come for some great homemade crafts and food items made by members of St. Andrew!
2x4 Fellowship Groups meet monthly for a time of fellowship (usually from November through May). These groups then decide what they will do together for each month. Whether it is gathering for dinner, a movie, a concert, a sporting event or some other agreed upon activity, 2x4's are a great way to develop lasting friendships with members of St. Andrew.
St. Andrew also hosts SafeHaven. SafeHaven is a ministry to children, youth and families who are faced with issues of abuse and neglect. Counseling and play therapy are provided by Nan Schroeder, a Licensed Independent Social Worker, through Medicaid (Title 19), Private insurance and private pay. For more information or to schedule an appointment for an initial consultation, please call 319-378-0795. Please note that the church office does NOT schedule appointments.
